(Dyspepsia) Indigestion is just another name for an upset stomach. It may be triggered by eating particular foods or after drinking wine or carbonated drinks. It may also be caused by eating too fast or overeating.

Causes:

  • Eating too fast.
  • Eating a heavy meal.
  • Eating too much spicy foods.
  • Irregular meals, because long gaps between meals allow the acid more time to act. Each meal neutralizes the acid for a while.
  • Tobacco or smoking.
  • Pregnancy, which commonly causes heartburn, indigestion or vomiting.

Symptoms:

  • Think you’re losing weight.
  • Pain, which may be in the upper part of the abdomen or the chest. This may not always be related to eating.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Jaundice (yellow coloring of the skin and eyes).
  • Back pain, profuse sweating, and anxiety.

Diagnosis:

  • Dyspepsia is generally diagnosed to routine blood, urine, and stool tests, a sigmoidoscopy may help detect problems in the rectum and lower colon and also maybe taken to check for thyroid disorders.

  • The rhizome (root) of galangal resembles ginger in taste and appearance. One serving (64 g) of galangal contains 45 calories and 2 g of dietary fiber. It is also a source of sodium, iron, vitamins A and C. Researchers have proposed the benefits of galangal in certain inflammatory conditions. Recently, Korean scientists isolated six diarylheptanoids from the rhizome of Alpinia officinarum or galangal. All these compounds demonstrated inhibitory activities on nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-activated macrophage. Japanese researchers found an ingredient of galangal has enti-emetic activities in chicken.

Take 1 or 2 greater galangal leaves, clean and boil it. Then filter and drink 1 or 2 spoon of this.
